On January 6th and 7th, ninety fourth grade students and seventy-one chaperones traveled to St. Augustine, Florida, to culminate the classroom study of Florida history. In class, the students read about the early explorers and the founding of St. Augustine. It was exciting to see history come alive as the groups toured many historical sights. The students enjoyed a musket demonstration and watched a blacksmith make a nail in the Spanish Quarter. The groups walked through the Castillo de San Marcos, the oldest wooden schoolhouse, the old jail, Flagler Presbyterian Church, and Mission Nombre de Dios. Students also enjoyed learning about Timucuan Indians and early Spanish life at the Old Florida Museum. Everyone climbed 219 steps to the top of the St. Augustine Lighthouse and saw magnificent sights. The students were able to share the love of Christ through their homemade tracks with homeless people in the park. The students were a real blessing to those in need as well as to all the chaperones on the trip. The teachers and administration are all very proud of each student. It was a great trip!
