5th Grade World War II Celebration

5th Grade World War II Celebration
3rd quarter was very busy and exciting for 5th grade as we had a combined WW II unit for our social studies, language arts and reading classes. We ended the unit with a huge celebration that was held in the 5th grade hallway and classrooms. All of the projects were on display, as well as book reports and war posters that were made by the students. We also had a museum with many WW II artifacts. For the oral portion of the report, parents and several elementary classes, came out to hear our fifth graders present. Our first annual celebration was a huge success and great experience for our fifth graders, as well as the many elementary students and parents who learned from the wonderful presentations!

Third Grade Historical Character Fair

This year the third graders were assigned a biography book report with 5 presentation options. They could choose to present dressed up in costume, create a puppet, create a time line of the life of their character, create illustrations highlighting key events, or complete a written report. All students had to complete a Biblical Reflection of His/Her Life where they reflected on how the character's life did or did not honor the Lord. For the oral portion of the report, all third grade students lined the Sanctuary Hallway, and classes from Pre-K- 5th Grade came out to hear our third graders present. It was a great experience for our third graders as well as the elementary students and parents who learned from the presentations!

Celebrating World Cultures in Kindergarten

Kindergarten is celebrating world cultures this month in their social studies unit. The students in Mrs. Eynon's class spent time discovering different cultures and recognizing the fact that there are children all over the world who are just like them. Each student created a mask with a particular culture in mind. The masks are an awesome reminder of the fact that Jesus died for all the people groups of the world.

100 Acts of Love at CCA

Mrs. Eynon's kindergarten students were challenged to perform 100 unsolicited "acts of love" in celebration of Valentine's Day and the 100th day of school. Students were able to relate their acts of service to God's sacrificial love for us. The students found that serving others gave them more joy than receiving "stuff."

Wacky Wednesday Was Wild and Wonderful!

Mrs. Eynon's kindergarten class had fun on Wacky Wednesday eating Green Eggs and Ham. The students actually loved the green eggs! In order to celebrate Dr. Seuss's birthday in a style he would have loved, the elementary students came to school dressed as wacky as the characters in his books. All had a wild and wonderful day.

Who wants to run 26.2 miles?

That was the question answered by 16 CCA students. They took on the challenge to run 25 miles in 5 weeks and then ran their last 1.2 miles at the A1A Marathon on Feb. 22nd. They crossed the official finish line amid a cheering crowd and learned that perseverance can make a huge task possible and the reward that much sweeter!

Valentine Day Love Bags

Love God and Love Others was the Valentine Day focus for Ms. Troise's class. The class made "Love Bags" - which included tuna, applesauce, mints, a granola bar, water, toothbrush and tooth paste, and wipes in a large ziplock with a tract inside. The students were instructed to work with mom and dad to pray and then give the bag to a homeless person or a person on the side of the road. They all were very excited to go and share God's love.

100th Day at CCA

Today is the 100th day of school and students in Kindergarten are celebrating by wearing shirts with 100 things on them and by rotating through special activity centers. In these activity centers, parent volunteers lead the students in projects and crafts that reinforce the understanding of what 100 looks and feels like. Click here to see more photos of 100th day.

Science at CCA is a Blast!

Mrs. Allen's kindergarten class had the best time learning all about bubbles in Science class this week. Bubbles were flying everywhere as they investigated the evidence of wind and air in our atmosphere. They had hands-on experience on how their lungs work and how to spot evidence of oxygen both inside and outside the bubbles. It was FUN!

It's Snowing in Mrs. Cark's Kindergarten Class!

Students in Mrs. Clark's kindergarten class had a great time pretending it was snowing in Fort Lauderdale last week! They played outside in their mittens and scarves, and had hot chocolate and smores at the picnic tables, and then returned to the classroom to read a book about snowmen, and to create an edible snowman out of sugar donuts and pretzel sticks. Each student created and decorated a paper snowman at home with their families, and brought them in to display in the classroom. Stop by the kindergarten classrooms sometime to see the wonderful snowmen hanging around!

2nd Grade Class Leads in Worship

Miss Clark's 2nd grade class recently led worship for all three elementary chapels. It was a great opportunity for these students to see what it's like to prepare for and then lead students in a time of worshiping the Lord.

Christian Author Visits CCA

Christian author, Sigmund Brouwer, spoke to hundreds CCA elementary, middle and high school students on January 14. His talk truly inspired a passion for writing in many of the kids. After his three speaking sessions in the theater, he conducted writing workshops for 4th and 5th graders in the media center.
